DHANUSHA: The Chief Minister’s Inter-Province Kabaddi Tournament is set to kick off today in Janakpurdham.
Madhesh Province Sports Council Member Secretary Shivaji Prasad Kanu stated that each of Nepal’s seven provinces will field a team of 12 players in the tournament.
He emphasized the significance of kabaddi as a sport that reflects the cultural identity of Madhesh and highlighted the potential for the province to become a hub for sports development.
“If we link sports to Madhesh, which is accessible and resourceful, we can produce many athletes who can become national assets,” he said.
According to the organizers, kabaddi teams from all seven provinces will compete in the tournament, which will run through Saturday.
The Ministry of Sports and Social Welfare of the Madhesh Province government has allocated a budget of Rs 5 million for the event.
Member Secretary Kanu also shared details about the prizes: the champion team will receive Rs 25,000, the runner-up Rs 20,000, and the third-place team Rs 15,000.
