KATHMANDU: The ruling CPN-UML has concluded that the performance of the seven-party coalition government, led by party chair KP Sharma Oli, has been “satisfactory and effective” over the past year.
Following a meeting of the party’s Secretariat at its central office in Chyasal on Wednesday, UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali informed reporters that the government has demonstrated political stability and is making visible progress.
“The government is nearing its one-year mark. Overall, this year has been satisfactory. Most importantly, political stability has been strengthened,” said Gyawali. “Despite various rumors and attempts to undermine it, the government has remained firm. The economy has started to gain momentum, and the intensity of street protests has also subsided.”
He acknowledged that the budget for the current fiscal year was prepared under the leadership of the Maoist Centre, which limited the outcomes as per UML’s expectations.
“The results were not as anticipated because the budget was drafted by others, but now we’re beginning to see positive signs,” Gyawali added. “The country is heading in the right direction, and UML’s leadership in government has been effective.”
The meeting also identified the need to focus more on good governance and service delivery. Gyawali cited recent developments as encouraging, such as preliminary findings from petroleum exploration in Dailekh, where reports suggest the presence of 112 billion cubic meters of methane gas. “This could become a key driver of economic development for Nepal,” he said.
Referring to royalist sentiments, Gyawali noted that some regressive and anti-republican activities were attempted in recent times, but claimed those efforts have now been neutralized.
“Due to public awareness and the government’s initiatives, such regressive elements have been rendered ineffective,” he stated. “With that, the country has firmly set its course on a progressive path.”
