KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) chair and leader of the main opposition, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has said he is making continuous efforts to ensure that Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and its chair Rabi Lamichhane do not face injustice.
Speaking to journalists at Singha Durbar on Tuesday, Dahal stated that RSP leaders would one day understand the efforts he has made on their behalf.
His remarks come in the wake of criticism that his party, along with the Nepali Congress and UML, sidelined the RSP while reaching a consensus to form a probe committee on the controversial visit visa scam, in which Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has been implicated.
“I don’t want to say much about RSP right now,” Dahal said. “But I tried until the very end to prevent any injustice against RSP and Rabi Lamichhane. I still am. One day, RSP leaders will understand this.”
On Monday, a high-level investigation committee was formed under the leadership of former Chief Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi, based on an agreement among the Maoist Centre, Nepali Congress, and UML. However, RSP and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party rejected the committee in Parliament on Tuesday, accusing the ruling alliance of trying to shield the Home Minister.
Meanwhile, top leaders of the Maoist Centre and CPN (Unified Socialist) also held talks in Singha Durbar on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by Dahal, senior vice-chair Narayan Kaji Shrestha, and general secretary Dev Gurung from the Maoist Centre, while Unified Socialist was represented by chair Madhav Kumar Nepal, senior vice-chair Rajendra Pandey, and general secretary Ghanashyam Bhusal.
Leaders said the meeting focused on the newly formed probe committee into the visit visa controversy.
