Shiva Nepali accuses govt of shielding human trafficking network

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Shiva Nepali on Monday accused the government of shielding a massive human trafficking racket operating under the guise of visit visas.

Speaking during the special hour of the House of Representatives, Nepali described the crime as a “grave insult to humanity” and alleged that it is thriving under state protection.

“This is not just organized international crime—it is a monstrous betrayal of human dignity,” said Nepali. “The racket is being run from within Nepal with direct or indirect support from the state, and it is shameful that the government is trying to protect criminals instead of punishing them.”

He questioned the silence of the ruling coalition, led by the two major parties, on such a serious issue, suggesting that either the government is complicit or it is crippled by weakness. “Is this silence proof of your alliance with criminal networks, or a signal of your helplessness?” he asked.

Nepali stressed that the Rastriya Swatantra Party’s protest is not against any political figure or party, but against the systemic abuse of power that has allowed Nepal to become a hub and transit point for trafficking. He reiterated his party’s demand for the immediate formation of a high-level parliamentary investigation committee or a judicial commission to look into the issue.

“We will not let our voices be suppressed,” Nepali declared, confirming the party would continue its parliamentary boycott. “This is not a personal or partisan protest—it’s a stand for national dignity and against the exploitation of our citizens. If raising people’s issues is now treated as a crime, the government must answer to the public.”
