HoR discussing appropriation headings of various ministries

KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives (HoR) is discussing on the appropriation headings of several ministries amid protests by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and a boycott by the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).

According to the agenda, the House will deliberate on budget allocations for the Office of the President and multiple ministries under the Appropriation Bill, 2082 BS.

As the meeting commenced, lawmakers from the RSP and RPP stood in protest. Speaker Devraj Ghimire called for a peaceful environment to facilitate the budget approval process for the upcoming fiscal year. However, the protesting lawmakers ignored the Speaker’s appeal.

RSP MP Ashim Shah reiterated that the party will continue its protest until an impartial investigation is launched into the visit visa scandal, citing government inaction despite a month of demonstrations. Similarly, RPP’s Dhawal Shumsher Rana demanded a fair probe into the Tinkune incident.

Despite the disruptions, Speaker Ghimire announced that the session would proceed with its scheduled agenda. RSP lawmakers continued chanting slogans and encircling the Speaker’s podium.

MPs from ruling parties also urged the Speaker to ensure smooth proceedings and requested the protesting parties not to obstruct the House.

Today’s meeting is set to discuss budget allocations for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Urban Development, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Secretariat of the National Planning Commission, Office of the President, and Office of the Vice President.
