High-level Governance Reform Commission taking place today



KATHMANDU: The second meeting of the High-Level Governance Reform Commission, chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, is taking place today at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

Dr. Bhisma Kumar Bhusal, Joint Secretary at the Office, informed that the meeting will focus on making public services simpler, more accessible, and hassle-free.

The Commission was formed during a Cabinet meeting on April 21, and its first meeting was held on June 18.

Members include Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel; Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak; Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya; and Federal Affairs and General Administration Minister Rajkumar Gupta, among others.

The process of nominating two members from political parties and three experts (including one woman) is also underway.

The Commission has been tasked with making public service institutions more service-oriented by improving infrastructure, human resources, procedures, and technology.

Its mandate includes expediting decision-making, focusing on results, avoiding duplication of efforts, and enhancing coordination among various levels and agencies.

Additionally, the Commission is responsible for reforming administrative structures, procedures, and legal frameworks to support federalism, improve inter-governmental cooperation, and strengthen good governance. It also aims to build a competent, motivated, and accountable civil service.
