KATHMANDU: The ACC Men’s U-16 Eastern Regional Cricket Tournament kicks off today in Malaysia, as part of the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) annual calendar.
Nepal will play its opening match against Singapore this morning at 7:45 am Nepali time at the UKM Oval.
The Nepali U-16 team is led by captain Bipin Prasad Sharma, with Suryashun Koirala serving as vice-captain. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) recently announced a 14-member squad for the tournament.
The team includes Parijargan Yadav, Shivansh Bajgain, Raunak Srivastav, Abhay Yadav, Sachin Bhatta, Sugam Budhathoki, Suyog Bhattarai, Sushil Rawal, Shubham Khanal, Prasidh Jaishi, Joy Thapa, and Roshan Shahi. The team is coached by Dipendra Bahadur Chand.
A total of 10 teams are participating in the tournament. Nepal is placed in Group ‘A’ alongside Singapore, Indonesia, Bhutan, and Japan. Group ‘B’ consists of host nation Malaysia, along with Hong Kong, Maldives, Thailand, and Myanmar.
Nepal, which has won all three previous editions of the tournament, will face Japan in its second group match on Tuesday, followed by Indonesia, and Bhutan. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
