Kathmandu to get round-the-clock safe drinking water supply: Minister Pradeep Yadav

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Valley residents will now have access to 24-hour clean drinking water supply, announced Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav during the handover of a newly completed water supply project in Budhanilkantha Municipality-4.

Inaugurating the project and formally handing it over to Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL), Minister Yadav said residents will no longer face water shortages. He stated that Melamchi water will be supplied on a daily basis, ensuring consistent availability across the capital.

Minister Yadav further assured that the government is committed to developing strategic plans aimed at providing clean drinking water to at least 57 percent of the population within the next fiscal year. He said his continuous efforts had resulted in the timely completion of the Budhanilkantha water project, helping address local shortages.

The minister also revealed that efforts are underway to bring additional water from Shivapuri National Park to meet growing demands in Kathmandu Valley.

The water supply project was constructed through the joint coordination of the Bagmati Province government’s Ministry of Water Supply, Energy, and Irrigation, the Division of Water Supply and Sanitation No. 5, Budhanilkantha Municipality, and KUKL.
