KATHMANDU: Hitraj Pandey, Chief Whip of the Maoist Center, has accused the government of disregarding the authority and procedures of the House of Representatives.
His remarks came after relevant ministers failed to attend a scheduled discussion on allocated topics during a House meeting.
Pandey criticized the government’s handling of parliamentary business, particularly the inconsistent inclusion and removal of agenda items.
“The government has shown blatant disregard for this House. It’s beyond explanation,” he said. “We keep receiving agendas, and then they are withdrawn without explanation. When we inquire, we’re told the concerned ministers are not present.”
He expressed further frustration that the government has remained indifferent to ongoing protests and agitation within the House.
“It’s been quite some time since protests began in this chamber, yet there’s been no response. Prime Minister is here, but several ministers listed in today’s agenda are absent. This is a matter the Parliament itself must take seriously.”
Pandey also demanded that the discussion on the Appropriation Bill should not move forward in the absence of the relevant ministers. “Today’s discussion should not continue without their presence. This is a clear violation of parliamentary rules,” he stated. “Why are MPs expected to follow the rules, but not the government? How is that fair?”
He further complained that he was unable to propose amendments or spending cuts because the budget document had not been made available.
