Baglung jeep accident: Death toll rises to four



BAGLUNG: The death toll from a jeep accident in Baglung’s Dhorpatan Municipality–5 has risen to four, according to local authorities.

The accident occurred around 5:45 pm on Friday at Batasedanda when a jeep, with registration number Lu Pra 01001 Cha 1775, was traveling from Burtibang Bazaar to Chaur in Dhorpatan-5. The vehicle veered off the road and plunged approximately 60 meters down a slope.

Two passengers, 70-year-old Narbahadur Karki and 75-year-old Bhimkumari Budha, both from Dhorpatan-2, died on the spot.

Another passenger, 21-year-old Tikakumari Kunwar of the same ward, who had sustained serious injuries, died en route to Pokhara after initial treatment at Burtibang Provincial Hospital.

The fourth victim, 75-year-old Mankumari Thapa, also from Dhorpatan-2, died while undergoing treatment at Manipal Hospital in Pokhara on Saturday morning.

According to Inspector Anand Basnet of the Burtibang Area Police Office, the accident injured several others, including the driver, 27-year-old Govinda Thapa of Dhorpatan-2. The other injured passengers, who include both adults and children, are currently receiving treatment at Manipal Hospital in Pokhara and Mission Hospital in Palpa.

Police confirmed that a total of 16 individuals were aboard the jeep at the time of the crash. Authorities suspect the vehicle lost control before skidding off the road.
