Monsoon winds active, rainfall forecast across most parts of Nepal

KATHMANDU: The Weather Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has reported that monsoon winds have become active, bringing rainfall to various parts of the country.

The Division noted the influence of westerly and local winds particularly in the western and central regions. Meteorologist Govinda Jha explained that moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal have formed a weather system causing moderate to heavy rainfall in several areas nationwide.

“Currently, weather conditions are partly to generally cloudy across Nepal, with light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in places such as Ilam (Koshi Province); Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok, Nuwakot, Kathmandu, and Chitwan (Bagmati Province); Pyuthan and Rolpa (Lumbini Province); and areas around Surkhet (Karnali Province),” he said.

Heavy rainfall has been reported in isolated locations near Ilam and Bardiya, prompting the Division to advise necessary precautions.

Rain is expected in the Kathmandu Valley until Saturday. Additionally, heavy rainfall is likely in one or two locations within Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces until Friday morning.

The Division also forecasts light rain and snowfall in some high-hill and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as in isolated high-altitude areas elsewhere.

Officials have urged people to remain vigilant and prepare accordingly, as heavy rainfall may impact daily life, agriculture, and transportation on roads and in the air.
