KATHMANDU: A meeting of the House of Representatives under the Federal Parliament has been scheduled for 3 pm today at the Parliament Building in New Baneshwor.
However, uncertainty remains over whether the meeting will actually take place due to ongoing obstructions by opposition parties.
According to the Parliament Secretariat, Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel is expected to present a proposal, along with a statement, to initiate a general discussion on the annual estimate of revenue and expenditure for the fiscal year 2082/083. A discussion on the proposal is likely to follow.
Likewise, Ramhari Khatiwada, Chairperson of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, is set to present the committee’s report on the Federal Civil Service Bill, 2082.
The meeting’s tentative agenda also includes the Speaker reading out official communications received from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers regarding portfolio assignments.
However, the regular parliamentary proceedings have been stalled due to continued obstruction by opposition parties. They have been demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and the formation of an investigation committee over the controversial visit visa issue.
Despite multiple rounds of talks between the ruling and opposition parties, Speaker Devraj Ghimire has been unable to broker an agreement to end the deadlock. As a result, whether today’s meeting will proceed as scheduled remains uncertain.
