MYAGDI: The ‘one house, one tap’ drinking water facility has been successfully established in Paatle, Malika Rural Municipality-3, Myagdi.
A total of 589 people from 122 households have benefited from the Paatle Drinking Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Project, which was constructed at a cost of Rs 6,557,277.
Dhan Bahadur Roka, secretary of the consumer organization, said that taps have been installed in every household to ensure access to clean drinking water.
According to him, consumers contributed Rs 1,789,000 towards the project, which also received grants of Rs 3,337,325 from Nepal Water for Health (NEWA) and Rs 1,472,053 from Malika Rural Municipality.
Taps have also been installed at the community school in Paatle. Rupak Thapa, a technician at NEWA, explained that water from four springs is distributed through nine tanks connected by a 12,527-meter-long main and branch pipeline system.
Previously, residents of Paatle, a geographically remote area of Myagdi, relied on public taps for drinking water. The old system, built about 20 years ago, had deteriorated, causing issues with water supply and distribution.
Local resident Bal Bahadur Roka said that having taps in every household has saved time, reduced hassle, and improved cleanliness. He added that consumers are very satisfied with the new system.
A concrete drying rack has also been constructed near the taps. Additionally, water meters have been installed to promote economical water use and ensure sustainable operation of the project.
In the current fiscal year 2081/82, three water schemes have been completed in Paatle, Lumpipar, and Dadagaun within Malika Rural Municipality-3 in partnership with NEWA.
Ward Chairman Moti Prasad Budha stated that 400 households have benefited from these schemes. He added that drinking water facilities have been expanded in the toles of Dadagaun, Kiteni, Aul, Saragdi, Syagalung, Paatle, and Lumpipar.
