Talks between Nepali Congress and opposition fail to resolve house deadlock

KATHMANDU: Efforts to resume the obstructed meeting of the House of Representatives have failed after talks between the ruling Nepali Congress and opposition parties ended without an agreement on Monday.

The meeting, held at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor, involved lawmakers from the Nepali Congress, main opposition CPN (Maoist Centre), and the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

According to RSP Chief Whip Santosh Pariyar, the opposition had demanded the formation of a parliamentary probe committee to investigate irregularities surrounding the misuse of visit visas. However, the Nepali Congress did not agree to this demand, leading the talks to end inconclusively.

The meeting followed a disruption on Sunday, when opposition parties obstructed the House session as soon as it began, prompting its postponement until 2 pm Monday.

With the deadlock continuing, the fate of parliamentary proceedings remains uncertain.
