Prachanda calls meeting of opp’n parties amid HoR deadlock

KATHMANDU: Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, Chairman of the main opposition party, the Maoist Centre, has called a meeting of opposition parties amid ongoing obstruction in the House of Representatives (HoR).

As the House meeting has not been able to proceed according to the regular schedule, Prachanda has initiated a discussion among opposition forces.

The meeting is scheduled for 12 noon at the Parliament Building in New Baneshwor, according to Hitraj Pandey, Chief Whip of the Maoist Centre.

The opposition parties have been demanding the formation of a parliamentary investigation committee to probe the visit visa scandal. However, the ruling coalition has not agreed to this demand.

The House proceedings have remained disrupted following the introduction of the issue.

On Saturday, a meeting was held between Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Maoist Chairman Prachanda to discuss ways to resolve the parliamentary deadlock. They reportedly deliberated on ending the obstruction in the House.

Prachanda is expected to brief the opposition parties on the outcomes of his discussions with leaders from the ruling alliance during today’s meeting.
