Finance Ministry begins preparations for implementation of upcoming budget

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Finance has initiated internal preparations to ensure timely and effective implementation of the upcoming fiscal year’s budget.

A meeting held at the Ministry discussed aligning the annual policy and program, budget allocations, and key milestones to formulate a clear and coordinated action plan.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel directed relevant authorities to begin procurement-related groundwork for the projects and programs outlined in the budget speech. He said early preparations would enable swift contract finalizations once the budget is approved, facilitating faster execution.

Chief Secretary Baikuntha Aryal stated that no additional legal provisions are required to begin the procurement process and encouraged the ministries to proceed based on current budget provisions. The meeting also reviewed efforts to increase capital expenditure in the ongoing fiscal year.

Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyaya assured that the Ministry would immediately facilitate the reallocation of funds for programs that have secured financial sources and completed the necessary documentation.

He urged secretaries of line ministries to forward only those projects that are realistically executable and procedurally complete, stating that the Ministry is willing to work even on holidays and weekends if needed.

The meeting was attended by secretaries from key infrastructure-related ministries, including the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, and the Ministry of Drinking Water.
