Uruguayan envoy meets Energy Minister to explore energy, irrigation cooperation



KATHMANDU: Uruguay’s non-resident ambassador to Nepal, Alberto A. Guani, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, on Tuesday at the ministry in Singha Durbar.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed potential cooperation in the fields of energy and irrigation. Minister Khadka shared Nepal’s ambitious plan to generate 28,500 megawatts of electricity by 2035, emphasizing the need for support from international development partners to achieve the goal.

He praised Uruguay’s success in wind and solar energy and invited the country to explore opportunities for technical cooperation and investment in Nepal’s renewable energy sector. Khadka also highlighted Nepal’s broader interest in expanding cooperation in trade, sustainable development, and tourism.

Guani said Uruguay has strong experience in wind and other forms of renewable energy and expressed interest in sharing expertise and transferring technology. He also acknowledged Nepal’s valuable experience and skills in water resource management, noting that both countries could benefit from mutual exchange.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation were also present at the meeting.
