Vigilance increased at Birgunj checkpoint after Covid cases detected in border area

BIRGUNJ: Following a rise in Covid infections in neighboring India, heightened vigilance has been implemented at the Birgunj border market.

Health screening has begun for passengers entering Birgunj from India via land and rail routes.

A meeting of the Parsa District Health Crisis Management Committee has decided to strengthen health screening at the border checkpoint, considering the potential risk of Covid spread.

Inspecting the health desk established at the Birgunj checkpoint on Monday, Birgunj Metropolitan City Mayor Rajesh Man Singh emphasized the need for strict vigilance due to the increasing Covid cases in neighboring India.

“Given the rising Covid infections in the neighboring country, special precautions have been taken to prevent its spread here,” he said. “Efforts are underway to make the health desk at the checkpoint more effective.”

The metropolis has equipped the health desk with masks, sanitizers, temperature measuring devices, and other necessary supplies.

Health worker Ibrana Khatun said that temperature checks are mandatory for everyone arriving from Raxaul. Seven health workers are currently deployed at the health desk to carry out the screenings.
