InDrive drivers penalized for overcharging passengers in Pokhara

POKHARA: Several drivers using the InDrive ride-sharing app have been taken into custody by the District Police Office, Kaski, for charging passengers fares higher than legally permitted.

According to police, the incident occurred on the evening of June 1, around 8 pm, after a complaint was received that an InDrive driver had charged an excessive fare.

Following the complaint, a police team was deployed, and during inspection at various locations, eight vehicles along with several drivers were detained.

Hari Bahadur Basnet, Spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police at Kaski District Police Office, stated that investigations confirmed the drivers had indeed charged passengers more than the set fare rates. They were penalized under the Transport Management Act, 1993, and later released.

Police have urged drivers to avoid repeating such actions and advised ride service companies to actively monitor and regulate their services.

The incident comes amid ongoing protests by traditional transport operators against the newly introduced ride-sharing regulations by the Gandaki Province government, which has led to a halt in public transport services across the region.
