KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has announced five key objectives and seven priority areas of the upcoming national budget for fiscal year 2025/26 during a joint session of the Federal Parliament.
Presenting the annual budget statement on Tuesday, Minister Paudel said the budget aims to:
- Achieve high, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth to reduce poverty,
- Foster entrepreneurship and expand public and private investment to create employment opportunities,
- Enhance economic capacity through the use of modern technology,
- Promote social justice through social protection and development programs, and
- Improve public service delivery and promote good governance.
He further outlined the budget’s seven priority areas:
- Enhancing entrepreneurship, employment, production, and productivity,
- Expanding investment in quality, high-return physical infrastructure,
- Driving qualitative reforms in the social sector,
- Ensuring balanced regional development,
- Guaranteeing social security,
- Delivering citizen-friendly services, and
- Curbing corruption and improving governance.
The national budget, which will be implemented starting mid-July, reflects the government’s focus on inclusive growth, job creation, infrastructure development, and institutional reforms.
