KATHMANDU: Kathmandu is gearing up to host the 22nd edition of the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF), scheduled to run from May 28 to June 1.
This year’s screenings will be held at QFX Cinemas, Astrek Park, and GAA Hall in Thamel under the theme “Fractured Voices, Reclaiming Narratives.”
The festival will feature more than 65 films from 30 countries, showcasing both celebrated international titles and Nepali films that reflect contemporary local stories.
The event will kick off with the Nepal premiere of Between the Mountain and the Sky, a documentary by Jeremy Power Regimbal that tells the story of CNN Hero Maggie Doyne.
As part of commemorating 70 years of Nepal-China diplomatic relations, KIMFF will also include screenings of Chinese films.
The festival’s jury includes noted filmmakers and industry professionals: Nabin Subba (Nepal), Martin Hesenohrl (Austria), Yingqi Chen (China), Professor Xun Zhang (journalism and communications), and film programmer Jinna Lee (South Korea).
The jury will select winners in several international categories—feature fiction (4 nominees), feature documentary (14), short fiction (11), and short documentary (13). In the Nepal Panorama section, awards will be given for best documentary (6 entries) and best fiction (11 entries).
“Our aim is to entertain while initiating meaningful conversations around pressing social issues,” said KIMFF Foundation Chair Ramyata Limbu.
Tickets are priced at Rs150 for the general public and Rs100 for students, according to the organizers.
