Police seize smuggled garments



KATHMANDU: Police on Sunday made public smuggled clothes worth Rs 5.5 million that it confiscated from Budhanilakantha, Kathmandu.

A team of Metropolitan Police Range had confiscated illegal garments from a tourist bus bearing registration plate Ba 4 Kha 6939 parked at Bishnumati of Budhanilakantha.

According to Metropolitan Police Range’s Police Inspector, Bhupendra Giri, the garments comprising some 3,704 shirts and other garments were stashed in a secret compartment in the roof of the bus that was brought to Kathmandu by evading the customs.

Police said that the bus plying the Delhi-Kathmandu route has been used to ferry smuggled goods from India to Nepal.

Bus driver and the helper have been absconding, police said. The bus and the illegal garments have been sent to the Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj for further action, Inspector Giri informed.
