Govt plans to merge universities with low student enrollment

KATHMANDU: The government has put forward a plan to merge universities with low student enrollment as part of its newly approved Economic Reform Action Plan 2025.

The action plan outlines that universities with a small number of students will be consolidated over the next two years in an effort to improve operational efficiency and academic productivity.

“The policy aims to merge universities with low student numbers to increase production efficiency,” states the official action plan.

The move is part of broader economic and institutional reforms aimed at optimizing public resources, improving education quality, and ensuring that higher education institutions are better aligned with national development goals.
