Madhesh-based Federal Democratic Front opposes land-related bill

KATHMANDU: The Federal Democratic Front, formed by seven Madhes-focused political parties, has expressed disagreement with the land-related bill introduced by the government.

In a meeting held on Wednesday at the central office of the Janamat Party in Baneshwar, the Front stated its opposition, arguing that the bill interferes with the jurisdiction of the provinces.

The front also said that according to the Constitution, the authority to manage land and maintain related records lies with the provincial governments, and the government has violated this by presenting the bill in the parliament.

Janamat Party spokesperson Dr. Sharad Yadav stated that the bill is unconstitutional and, therefore, incapable of solving the problems faced by landless people.

He further said that the bill would mainly benefit land mafias. The meeting demanded that the bill be withdrawn.

Additionally, the meeting also discussed the upcoming fiscal year 2025/26 budget. It emphasized that the budget allocation should be based on population and the Human Development Index (HDI).
