Rabi Lamichhane’s habeas corpus petition hearing continues today

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court is set to continue the hearing today on a habeas corpus petition filed on behalf of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane.

On Tuesday, the bench comprising Justices Nahakul Subedi and Balkrishna Dhakal began hearing the case but was unable to conclude it. As a result, the hearing was deferred to Wednesday.

The petition was filed on April 20 by Lamichhane’s wife, Nikita Poudel, challenging his judicial custody. The case had previously been postponed multiple times due to various reasons, but a full hearing finally commenced on Tuesday.

Lamichhane is currently in custody following an order from the Butwal bench of the Tulsipur High Court on April 4, which sent him to pre-trial detention. The Supreme Court petition seeks to overturn this order.
