PM Oli says UML could secure single-party majority in 2027 election



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has said that it is not impossible for the UML to secure a single-party majority in the upcoming 2084 BS general elections.

Speaking at the opening of the 7th National Convention of the Nepal Oppressed Racial Liberation Society in Kathmandu on Monday, Oli acknowledged that the current mixed electoral system, which includes proportional representation, generally makes it difficult for any single party to achieve a majority. However, he argued that a UML majority is still within reach.

He emphasized that preparations must be made to develop the UML as a majority-holding party within the framework of the current electoral system.

Oli also asserted that UML must become the country’s decisive national force to drive development and good governance forward. He said the party continues to work for good governance, stability, development, prosperity, national sovereignty, and integrity, without prioritizing individual or party interests.

He accused opposition parties of spreading misinformation among the public and called on party members to unite and counter such narratives. Oli also urged all to prioritize national interest in efforts to strengthen the communist movement, the party, and the country.
