Cabinet meeting taking place this evening

KATHMANDU: A cabinet meeting is taking place today at 6 p.m. Earlier, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had scheduled the meeting for 8 p.m. tonight.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the meeting will be held at Singha Durbar.

The session, which could not be held on Monday, has been rescheduled for today. Prior to the cabinet meeting, a session of the Investment Board of Nepal has also been called at Singha Durbar.

Today’s cabinet meeting is expected to appoint a new member to the recommendation committee formed for the selection of the Nepal Rastra Bank governor.

The position became vacant following the resignation of committee member Dr. Bishwa Poudel.

An internal agreement has reportedly been reached between the main ruling parties—the Nepali Congress and the UML—to appoint Bishwa Poudel as the next governor. The issue of the governor’s appointment has become increasingly contentious in recent weeks.
