Nepal face Hong Kong in crucial ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier match

BANGKOK: Nepal will take on Hong Kong today in a crucial Group C encounter of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier in Thailand. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:35 pm at the Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok.

The two sides were set to meet earlier in the tournament, but the match was abandoned without a toss due to rain. Since then, Nepal has bounced back with a win over Bahrain, securing its first victory of the competition.

Rain has continued to disrupt the qualifiers, with Hong Kong’s match against Bahrain on Monday also affected. Bahrain had managed 15 runs in four overs before the rain returned, forcing the match to be abandoned.

Both of Hong Kong’s matches in the tournament so far have been impacted by weather, adding uncertainty to their campaign. Nepal, on the other hand, now finds itself in a position to seal a spot in the Super Three stage with a victory today. A loss, however, would complicate Nepal’s chances of progressing further.

In the last five T20 encounters between Nepal and Hong Kong, Nepal has claimed two wins, while Hong Kong has won once. The other two matches were abandoned due to rain, including their most recent fixture in this tournament.

The qualifiers feature nine teams divided into three groups. The top team from each group will advance to the Super Three stage, where they will play against each other. The top two teams from the Super Three will qualify for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier.

The Nepali women’s cricket team is aiming to reach the Global Qualifier for the first time in its history. With the World Cup in sight, today’s match will be a decisive step in Nepal’s journey toward that goal.
