KATHMANDU: Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut has said that the Supreme Court has made significant progress in case adjudication in recent years. He made the remarks while addressing a program organized on the occasion of the 73rd Law Day–2082.
CJ Raut stated that the number of cases pending for more than five years would be reduced to zero by mid-July 2026, while cases pending for over eight years would be cleared by this coming mid-July.
“Old, long-pending cases have been decreasing over the past three years,” he said, adding that the Supreme Court has achieved the ability to finalize all types of cases within a year and a half.
He also committed to improving the effectiveness of case adjudication through the implementation of the fifth five-year strategic plan. The plan, he said, aims to ensure citizen access to justice, enhance public trust in the judiciary, and expand the use of technology in judicial processes.
CJ Raut noted that judicial reform efforts are gaining momentum and that the judicial workforce is becoming more motivated and positive.
“Law Day commemorates the practical enforcement of the rule of law, an independent judiciary, and the principles of separation of powers and checks and balances,” he said, extending best wishes to all those working to uphold the rule of law.
Law Day is observed annually on Baisakh 26 to mark the establishment of the Pradhan Nyayalaya (Chief Court) on Baisakh 26, 2009 BS.
