Kathmandu Mayor Balen in Pokhara for birthday celebration

POKHARA: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balen Shah is in Pokhara with his family to celebrate his birthday. He arrived in Pokhara on April 24, accompanied by his parents, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, wife, and daughter.

Although he has not met anyone officially in Pokhara, Balen has been spending time with his family.

After arriving, they stayed at the Deurali Farm House in Chauthe, and Balen has been boating at Begnas Lake and Fewatal (Fewa Lake) with close friends. Photos of these activities have been shared on social media.

Balen had previously stayed at the same farm house during a prior visit. Literary writer Ganesh Poudel, who is close to Balen, had contested the Pokhara mayoral election with the symbol of a stick.

Though it is Saturday by date, Mayor Balen’s birthday falls today (Sunday). He plans to celebrate it with his friend Poudel.

Poudel extended his birthday wishes to Balen through a heartfelt post on social media, sharing a photo of Balen with his mother.

Poudel wrote: “No matter the weight of the responsibilities he bears, no matter how many big people try to harass him, he never lets the natural flow of life be disturbed. He remains humble, always available to those around him, always simple and full of dreams.”

“He is the craftsman of contemporary dreams entrusted to society by our generation—a beacon of morality, a guardian of faith, and an irreplaceable light, like the last hope of the era. He is a lake for everyone, near and far, a right for all.”

On Saturday, the Balen family visited the Gandaki Rainbow Trout farm in Bhurjung Khola, Machhapuchhre, Kaski.

They spent the night there, and owners Laxin and Amrit Gurung shared photos taken with Balen and his family.

Thirteen people, including the driver, had booked six rooms at the farm. Balen had requested that visitors who wanted to take photos with him be stopped at the crowded location. The restaurant owner complied, deploying security guards as per Balen’s request.

The family stayed at a lodge located slightly above the Gandaki Rainbow Trout Farm.

Balen, who is known for being reserved, was asked by the Trout Farm owner, Laxin Gurung, to take a group photo with the restaurant staff. Balen agreed to the request and took the photo.
