KMC declares mourning holiday to honor Tirtharam Dangol



KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has declared a mourning holiday today in honor of Tirtharam Dangol, the former Deputy Chief Minister of the then Kathmandu Nagar Panchayat, following his passing last Friday.

The KMC Administration Department issued a notice announcing the closure, stating that only essential services would operate during the mourning holiday. Dangol, who had been battling cancer for an extended period, was laid to rest at Teku yesterday.

Born on February 11, 1948, Dangol was a prominent political figure during the Panchayat era.

In the 1987 local Panchayat elections, he was elected Deputy Chief Minister of Kathmandu Municipality as a candidate representing the democratic side. He also served as the Minister of State for Health and was a respected leader of the Nepali Congress.
