Chief Justice Raut leaving for UK on a 10-day visit today

KATHMANDU: Chief Justice (CJ) Prakash Man Singh Raut is set to depart for a 10-day visit to the UK today.

Raut will be accompanied by Supreme Court Justice Hari Prasad Phuyal, High Court Justices Ritendra Thapa and Hemanta Rawal, as well as Supreme Court Registrar Bimal Poudel.

Initially, Chief Justice Raut was scheduled for a foreign visit on April 24, with plans to visit Turkey first and then the UK.

However, the visit to Turkey was canceled at the last minute. While reports suggested the cancellation was due to the earthquake in Turkey, the Supreme Court has not issued an official statement regarding the matter.

This time, Chief Justice Raut will only transit through Istanbul, Turkey, and will depart directly for London from there. According to a Supreme Court official, there are no formal events planned in Istanbul.

The Raut-led team is scheduled to return to Nepal on May 6.
