NC leader Tirtharam Dangol passes away



KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader and former State Minister for Health, Tirtharam Dangol, passed away on Friday night.

Dangol had been receiving treatment for prostate cancer and kidney-related ailments for an extended period.

He died at KMC Hospital in Sinamangal, according to family sources.

Born in Kathmandu in 2004 BS, the 77-year-old held several key positions within the Nepali Congress, including treasurer and district president of the party’s Kathmandu chapter.

He also served as the deputy mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

A prominent figure in Nepali politics, Dangol was known for his outspoken leadership and played a pivotal role as a commander in Kathmandu during the Jana Andolan of 2062/63 BS.

A trust established in his name annually honors individuals for their contributions to education, journalism, and the Nepali language.

According to former minister Bhimsen Das Pradhan, his body will be kept at the Nepali Congress central office from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today for final tributes, after which his last rites will be performed at Teku Dobhan.
