Prachanda vows to uphold promises made to voters in Gorkha

GORKHA: Maoist Center Chairman and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has reaffirmed his commitment to the promises made during the last elections in Gorkha, stating that he continues to advocate for them even from the opposition benches.

Addressing the executive meeting of Barpak Sulikot Rural Municipality in Gorkha on Friday, Prachanda responded to concerns raised by Rural Municipality Chair Bishnu Bhatta regarding delays and budget shortages in road construction, drinking water supply, and other infrastructure projects.

“I have not forgotten the promises I made during the elections. When I was in government, I made sincere efforts to fulfill them. You are the ones to judge how much was achieved,” he said. “Even now, I continue to raise these issues in Parliament as the leader of the main opposition.”

Prachanda also called on Gandaki Province Chief Minister Surendra Pandey to ensure equitable development across all regions.

“There have been some complaints from here as well. I urge Chief Minister Pandey to prioritize the demands and needs raised by the people of Gorkha in development planning,” he added.

In response, Chief Minister Pandey expressed his readiness to cooperate with Prachanda and assured that the provincial government’s development programs would reach all local levels.

During the meeting, local representatives raised concerns about the mismanagement of natural resources, noting that stone, gravel, and sand were being extracted without proper revenue collection, leading to friction within public institutions.

Addressing these issues, Prachanda emphasized the importance of good governance and financial transparency. “We must treat revenue collection and transparency as the foundation of good governance,” he said.

“The active involvement of the provincial government in enacting and enforcing necessary laws is crucial.”

He urged all political parties and elected representatives to move forward by adopting good governance and transparency as the guiding principles for development.
