NCP and CPC sign memorandum

KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for mutual cooperation establishing what has been said “brotherly relations”.

NCP chief of the foreign department Madhav Kumar Nepal and Chief of the International Liaison Department of CPC Song Tao signed the MoU in the presence of NCP Chairmen KP Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

Even though the communist parties had signed such agreements in the past, no pact was signed after the unification of the two parties – CPN-UML and the Maoist.

The MoU includes issues ranging from mutual cooperation, assistance, seminars, and visits, party sources said.

According to Deputy Chief of NCP, Department of Foreign Affairs, Bishnu Rijal, the MoU incorporates five points, including, exchanging high-level visits between the two parties, giving continuity to the ideological training that is being conducted at present, extending sharing the communist ideology and experience, the training to the lower level, and sharing experience about the development models of the two countries.

“It’s an attempt to further consolidate the relations between the two countries and two parties, and take relations to a new height,” Rijal said.

He added that Nepal and NCP are committed to ‘One China Policy’.

The MoU has been signed when Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit Nepal somewhere in October this year.
