Teachers intensifying protest: Calls educators from rural areas to join protest in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: The Nepal Teachers Federation is set to escalate its Kathmandu-centric protest, with President Laxmi Kishor Subedi urging teachers from rural areas to join the movement in the capital.

Subedi announced a change in the protest schedule as the demonstration enters its 21st day.

“Please call your friends from the villages to Kathmandu so they can take part in this pivotal moment of the protest,” said Subedi, emphasizing the symbolic significance of joining the movement at this stage.

The Federation has revised the protest hours. Previously held from 9 a.m., the demonstration will now take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., starting today (Wednesday).

Community school teachers from across the country have been staging protests in Kathmandu, demanding the immediate enactment of the School Education Act. As a result, the government has postponed the Grade 11 examination to May 4.

Subedi shared that the Federation’s National Committee, in a meeting held on Tuesday, decided to further intensify the movement.

He encouraged all participants to continue joining the protests with the same discipline and restraint shown so far.

He also cautioned teachers against engaging in any activities prohibited by the Federation and noted that regional demonstrations will be organized across Sudurpaschim, Karnali, Lumbini, Gandaki, Bagmati, Madhesh, and Koshi provinces, with the leadership marching under the National Committee’s main banner.
