RSP central committee meeting discusses four key agendas including Rabi’s jail term and Sumana’s resignation

KATHMANDU: The Central Committee meeting of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is currently underway at the party’s central office in Banasthali.

Acting spokesperson Manish Jha informed that the meeting, which began at 3 PM under acting chair DP Aryal, is focused on four main agendas.

The meeting is reviewing recent political developments in the country, future party plans, previous meeting decisions, progress on the party’s blueprint task force, and brief reports from committee members, according to Jha.

A key agenda is the party’s “Janayatra” campaign, which was launched from Chitwan on Chaitra 23.

However, the campaign stalled after the Butwal bench of the High Court Tulsipur reversed a Rupandehi District Court decision to release party chair Rabi Lamichhane on bail, ordering him into custody instead.

While the Janayatra started with a mass gathering in Narayanghat, it could not be continued.

The meeting is also discussing preparations for the party’s first general convention. Notably, the resignation of Deputy General Secretary Sumana Shrestha, submitted on Chaitra 17, has created internal ripples.
In her resignation letter, Shrestha expressed strong dissatisfaction with the leadership, including Lamichhane.

Previously, the RSP had planned to hold its first general convention from Baisakh 25 to 27. With Lamichhane now in custody due to the ongoing cooperative scandal, the meeting is expected to take a final call on whether the convention will proceed as scheduled.
