KATHMANDU: The government has called on teachers to end their protests and return to work, assuring them that their concerns will be addressed appropriately.
At a press briefing on Wednesday to share Cabinet decisions, government spokesperson Prithvi Subba Gurung said the government remains sensitive to the demands raised by the Nepal Teachers’ Federation and urged teachers to resume their duties.
He stated that the government has decided to facilitate the swift passage of the School Education Bill, currently under parliamentary review, and will coordinate with other political parties to pass it through a fast-track process as requested by the teachers.
Spokesperson Gurung emphasized that while the government takes the teachers’ concerns seriously, the teachers must also show flexibility.
He added that a study is underway to consider revising the benefits and services of teachers and other civil servants, considering the current economic situation.
In addition, the Cabinet approved the acceptance of an additional 1.88 million Swiss Francs in grant aid from the Government of Switzerland for small-scale irrigation programs.
Other decisions included the implementation of the Iodized Salt (Sale and Distribution) Act, 2055, across Nepal from the start of the upcoming fiscal year (Shrawan 1), the approval of the First Amendment to the 2081 Policy on Registration, Use, and Lease of Government Land, and the endorsement of the Aviation Services Management Regulation, 2081.
The Cabinet also formed a committee to develop an action plan within seven days to implement the recommendations of the High-Level Economic Reform Commission, headed by former Secretary Rameshwar Khanal.
