Two killed, 22 injured in road accident in Rupandehi



KATHMANDU: Two people lost their lives and 22 others sustained injuries in a road accident at Bharabliya village of Lumbini Sanskritik Municipality-7, Rupandehi, on Monday evening.

According to the District Police Office, the deceased have been identified as Asmita Yadav, 12, of Gaidahawa Rural Municipality-1, and Janmati Yadav, 48, of Shuddodhan Rural Municipality-6.

The accident occurred when a van (Lu 1 Cha 2763), carrying 24 passengers, overturned at Shivagadhiya while returning from a ritual ceremony at the Mayadevi Temple in Lumbini. Eyewitness Sandeep Gupta reported that the vehicle was speeding, which likely caused the mishap.

Of the injured, three are receiving treatment at Life Care Hospital in Lumbini, while the remaining 19 are being treated at Universal College of Medical Sciences in Ranigaun, Bhairahawa.

Police have arrested the driver, Ashok Pasi, 26, of Shuddodhan Rural Municipality-4, for investigation, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Suraj Karki.
