Annie Kunwar, seen inside house set on fire in Tinkune, arrested

KATHMANDU: Journalist and religious activist Annie Kunwar has been arrested in connection with the arson attack on a house in Tinkune on March 28.

She was taken into custody today by police from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku.

A video that went viral on social media showed Kunwar descending the stairs of a house that had been set on fire.

Journalist Suresh Rajak was burned inside the same house. There are suspicions regarding Kunwar’s involvement in the incident, although she claimed she did not see Suresh at the time.

Police said that Kunwar cannot be considered innocent, as it was confirmed that she entered someone else’s house without permission.

“Her three actions are visible. She was seen giving a speech on stage and in a video taken outside the burnt house. She was also seen entering and leaving someone else’s house without permission. Therefore, she could not be considered innocent,” police said.

While it has not yet been confirmed who started the fire, GC informed that everyone who entered the house is being investigated.

Kunwar is a former journalist for Avenues TV and is currently active in royalist and religious campaigns.

She had been claiming her innocence by releasing a video of herself pouring water into the house and live-streaming from outside, asking for help.
