Nagdhunga-Sisnekhola Tunnel construction halted for 20 days due to local obstruction

KATHMANDU: The construction of the Nagdhunga-Sisnekhola tunnel, a key infrastructure project in its final phase, has been stalled for the past 20 days following obstruction by local residents.

Locals have repeatedly disrupted the construction over time, citing unaddressed demands. The latest obstruction began on Chaitra 30, with residents stating that previous agreements and commitments made to them remain unmet.

As a result, construction work has come to a complete halt on both the Kathmandu and Dhading sides of the tunnel.

Project officials have expressed concern over the delay, warning that further obstruction could push back the completion timeline of the long-anticipated project meant to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity between Kathmandu and western Nepal.
