TAIPEI: Taiwan said it has cut official ties with Kiribati, the Pacific island nation, international media reports have said.

The decision comes days after the Solomon Islands cut off ties with Taiwan. This deals a fresh blow to Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, who is currently seeking re-election in January 2020.

China says Taiwan has no right to formal ties with any country.

China has increased pressure on Taiwan since Tsai took office. (Agencies)
