Rabindra Mishra and Dhawal Shumsher Rana arrested

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Senior Vice President Rabindra Mishra and General Secretary Dhawal Shumsher Rana have been arrested on charges of engaging in anarchic activities during the royalist movement.

According to police sources, the two were taken into custody while returning from KMC Hospital, where they had visited injured protestors.

Meanwhile, Durga Prasai, one of the key figures leading the movement, has gone into hiding. Police have launched a search operation for him, but he reportedly switched off his mobile phone and disappeared after learning of the authorities’ move to detain him.

Although the royalist faction initially claimed Friday’s protest would be peaceful, it quickly escalated into violent clashes.

The unrest resulted in two deaths, including a journalist, with dozens of police officers and demonstrators injured.

Protesters vandalized, looted, and set fire to properties across various locations, forcing the government to impose a curfew in Tinkune, Koteshwor, and Sinamangal areas until 7 am on Saturday.

Security forces, including the Nepali Army, have been deployed with armored vehicles, and the government has authorized use of lethal force against arsonists.
