Declaring state of emergency for dengue not necessary: Health Minister Yadav

KATHMANDU: Minister for Health and Population Upendra Yadav today said declaring a state of emergency for dengue was not necessary given the current situation.

In his statement of public importance in Wednesday’s session of the House of Representatives (HoR), Minister Yadav said since the government was capable of controlling the epidemic, there seemed no ground for declaring an emergency.

He also informed that the number of dengue patients was decreasing lately. The minister stated that the first case of dengue, which was first reported in Chitwan some 15 years ago, has now spread to 56 districts.

According to him, over 5,000 people have been affected by dengue, and six have lost their lives.

He added that public awareness campaign against this disease was initiated at all three-level governments together with ‘search and destroy’ efforts. “Dengue test kits have already been dispensed to 11 affected districts,” he informed.

A help desk for dengue, according to him, has been set up, and arrangements for the free blood test are in place. He also informed that 20 beds in Teku Hospital have been reserved for dengue affected people.
