KATHMANDU: A crucial meeting between Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is set to take place today (Monday) at Singha Durbar.
The meeting, scheduled for 4 p.m., will bring together the three top leaders from the ruling parties and the main opposition.
Prime Minister Oli, who also chairs the CPN-UML, will be joined by Deuba and Prachanda for discussions.
Agni Kharel, PM Oli’s advisor on human rights and transitional justice, confirmed the meeting.
“It has been decided that only the top three leaders will participate in the discussion at 4 p.m.,” Kharel stated.
One of the key issues on the agenda is the long-pending appointment of office bearers to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission on Investigation of Enforced Disappearances.
A recommendation committee to oversee these appointments has not yet been formed, further delaying the transitional justice process.
The previous recommendation committee, led by former Chief Justice Om Prakash Mishra, withdrew from its responsibility after failing to reach a unanimous decision on potential office bearers.
