NP Saud criticizes govt’s inaction on constitutional amendment

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader NP Saud has criticized the current two-thirds government for failing to take even a single step toward amending the constitution as promised in the seven-point agreement.

Speaking at an interaction program organized by the Nepali Congress Morang-Kathmandu Liaison Committee on Friday, Saud expressed disappointment over the ruling coalition’s inability to address constitutional agendas.

He pointed out that despite committing to constitutional amendments during the formation of the government, no significant progress has been made.

Saud, who is also a former Foreign Minister, remarked that the seven-point agreement between the Nepali Congress and UML included a vague commitment to strengthening the successful aspects of the constitution while addressing its shortcomings.

However, he noted that the agreement lacked clear agendas on key issues such as the form of government and proportional representation.

He further commented that the agreement has gradually faded into oblivion and expressed concern that the government’s promise of good governance has not materialized. According to Saud, citizens are still unable to see any framework of good governance from the two-thirds government.

Saud also raised doubts over the party’s commitment to its election manifesto, stating that the promises made during the last election campaign seem to have been shelved.
