Public Account Committee to settle complaints within 15 days

KATHMANDU: The Public Account Committee (PAC) of the House of Representatives has announced its decision to investigate 48 complaints and conclude the process within 15 days.

During a meeting held on Tuesday, PAC Chair Rishikesh Pokharel stated that the committee would form seven thematic task forces to study the complaints.

He added that the committee secretariat would seek feedback from relevant authorities within seven days, and the final decision would be made within the stipulated time frame.

Among the complaints selected for investigation, six are related to Nepal Telecom, five are associated with the Securities Board, and six pertain to the Civil Aviation Authority, Lumbini Development Trust, and Nepal Airlines Corporation under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation.

Other complaints are linked to Nepal Scouts, Nepal Television, the Department of Foreign Employment, Ministry of Finance, Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), crusher industries, Nepal Electricity Authority, mobile banking, Telecommunication Authority, the Department of Health Services, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sports Council, and the Ministry of Urban Development.

Additionally, complaints regarding the return of government land, the purchase of SIM locators by the Central Bureau of Investigation, insurance issues, and road graveling projects will also be investigated.

A sub-committee, coordinated by committee member Sanjay Kumar Gautam, recommended the investigation of 48 out of the 100 complaints received since the formation of the committee on April 28, 2023.

The remaining 52 complaints were excluded as some are already under investigation by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), some are pending in court, and others were found to be biased, prejudiced, or outside the committee’s jurisdiction.

The meeting also directed the sub-committee to submit a report within 15 days regarding the alleged irregularities in the construction of Pokhara and Bhairahawa airports.
