BUTWAL: A total of 47 kilometers of the 65-kilometer Narayanghat-Butwal section of the East-West Highway, which is being expanded to four lanes, has been blacktopped in its eastern section.

According to the Narayanghat-Butwal Road Project (Eastern Section) Office, 58.7 percent of the physical progress on the road has been completed so far.

Of the total, 16 kilometers of blacktopping have been finished towards Gaindakot, and work is currently underway in Devchuli Municipality. Additionally, 22 small bridges have been constructed in this section.

However, the link roads to the completed bridges have not yet been finished, which means it will take some time before vehicles can fully operate across them, as noted by the office’s information officer, Shiva Khanal.

Work is progressing rapidly, with the goal of completing the Binayi Khola Bridge before the upcoming monsoon. A few weeks ago, after the bridge was damaged by an overloaded truck, vehicles were diverted to alternative routes.

Rakesh Jha, joint manager of China State Construction Engineering, the company contracted for the road expansion, said that work is ongoing at 42 locations along the route.

“We have focused our manpower on bridge construction alongside road expansion,” he said. “In addition to the road blacktop and bridge work, we have mobilized over 650 workers to handle tasks such as culverts, sub-bases, bases, fillings, drainage, gabions, and other related works.”

The target is to complete the blacktopping up to Dumkibas by next April. “The cutting of the mountain wall at the most difficult section in the eastern part of Daunne has already been completed,” he added.
