Shahi accuses UML’s Pant of hypocrisy, claims “murderers” walk around Parliament as MPs

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chief Whip Gyanendra Shahi has hit back at CPN-UML MP Raghuji Pant, who had challenged him to debate after studying history.

Speaking in the House of Representatives on Sunday, Shahi emphasized that statements made in parliament should be well thought out.

In response to Pant’s comments about murders during the king’s reign, Shahi questioned, “Can anyone come here and say whatever they want?”

He added, “You talk about murderers—who killed Madan Bhandari? The person who promised to uncover the truth behind his murder is now the Prime Minister. Who stopped you from investigating the murder of Madan Bhandari? This Parliament deserves an answer.”

Shahi also addressed the UML, which has led the government multiple times, asking whether they remember the killing of Madan Bhandari.

“Are you talking about murders? The President was from your party. The Prime Minister was from your party. You held a two-thirds majority in Parliament. Don’t you remember the murder of Madan Bhandari?” he said.

“Let me remind you—do you recall the Badarmude incident? Wasn’t an unarmed citizen killed by a bomb? The killers of Lamjung teacher Muktinath Adhikari are walking around in this very parliament as MPs. Do we not need answers for this?”

Shahi also criticized a statement made by CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Friday, when Dahal referred to former King Gyanendra as a “brother-killer,” “smuggler,” and “thief” during a visit to Sindhupalchowk.

Shahi responded, “A person who openly claims to have killed five thousand people is allowed to become Prime Minister of this country. Is this the kind of system we have, that lets someone who goes to Delhi to kill unarmed people in Nepal become an MP and minister here?”
