Works being forwarded to promulgate Education Act from this session: leader Pokhrel

KATHMANDU: General-Secretary of the CPN (UML), Shankar Pokhrel, has said the government has been working to endorse the Education Act from the ongoing parliament session.

At a sit-in programme staged by the Nepal Teachers’ Federation at the CPN (UML) Central Office, Chyasal of Lalitpur, today, he shared that the two largest parties of the country formed a coalition government to bring the education related laws soon.

“We have been working to finalize the contentious issues in this session”, he argued, adding support of the federation was necessary to reach a consensus on the issues to be included in the Act.

Stating that it is wrong to say that problems were surfaced in education sector due to political parties, the CPN (UML) General-Secretary mentioned that contribution of politics in development of education sector should not be forgotten.

He pointed out the need of transforming the traditional education system into entrepreneurship and life skills education, adding education should produce human resources with duties.

Similarly, Federation Chairperson Laxman Kishor Subedi stressed the need of issuing the Education Act in favour of teachers and staffs.

The sit-in programme was organised in order to exert pressure on political parties to issue the Act, he stated.

Under the second-phase agitation, the Federation has been staging sit-in at offices of major political parties from March 11-18 to exert pressure to issue the Education Act.
